The bill arrives, someone pulls out a phone calculator, and the conversation stops. Splitting a dinner fairly is easy once you decide on the method and let one person pay.
Choose the method that fits the table
- Split evenly when everyone shared plates and ordered roughly the same.
- Exact amounts when orders were very different, for example one person had only a salad and another ordered the steak and wine.
- Percentage when a couple or a family covers a larger share together.
Let one person pay, then record it
Paying with one card is faster for everyone, including the restaurant. Add the dinner to your group in ScratchSplit with who paid and how it is split. Everyone else's share appears in the group balance right away.
Do not lose the leftover cents
A €100 bill split three ways does not divide cleanly. ScratchSplit works in whole cents and assigns the leftover cent so the shares always add back to the exact total, with no rounding drift over many dinners.
Settle later, all at once
If you eat out with the same friends often, there is no need to pay back each meal. Let balances build up across dinners, then use the suggested fewest payments to clear everything in one go.
